Residents in the towns of Adrano and Biancavilla reported hearing loud explosions emanating from the volcano. The eruption comes after the Italian Civil Protection agency issued an alert, warning of potential sudden variations in Etna’s activity due to increased volcanic activity. Earlier in 2021, Mount Etna had experienced an eruption that lasted several weeks.
