The Coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland took place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023. The guests’ dress code was relaxed, which departed from the usual request for attendees to wear grand robes or ceremonial attire. Members of the royal family, however, arrived in traditional regalia. Prince William, Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also arrived wearing traditional attires.
Kate Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen ivory silk crepe dress with a silver bullion embroidered headpiece by Jess Collett and Alexander McQueen. Princess Charlotte wore an identical McQueen dress and similar silver headpiece. The Queen Consort, Camilla, wore a crimson velvet and ermine Robe of State and an ivory, silver, and gold embroidered coronation dress by British designer Bruce Oldfield.
First Lady Jill Biden wore a periwinkle blue Ralph Lauren skirt suit and a coordinating hair bow. Emma Thompson arrived at the ceremony in a monochrome red rose-printed overcoat from Emilia Wickstead, accessorized with her Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal. Katy Perry wore a pink skirt suit and pearl choker by Vivienne Westwood, while Nick Cave donned a classic three-piece black suit and Gucci horsebit loafers.
The event was a significant historical moment, and guests wore clothes that reflected their style and personalities. Despite the relaxed dress code, the guests looked impressive, reflecting their status and paying homage to tradition.
