Born in 1952, Chiume began her career as a nurse before transitioning to the performing arts. She went on to star in numerous stage productions, including the musical “Sola Sola” in Greece. In South Africa, she became a household name thanks to her roles in popular TV shows and soap operas.
International Recognition
Chiume’s international breakthrough came when she was cast as a Zawavari in the 2018 Oscar-winning film Black Panther. She reprised her role in the 2022 sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Her other notable role was as Simba’s mother Sarabi in Beyoncé’s Black Is King, a musical film that interpreted the soundtrack album “The Lion King: The Gift”.
