The Southwark Crown Court heard the alleged victim’s account of the incident during a police interview, in which he described feeling nervous and not wanting to upset Spacey due to his power in the industry. The court was told that they had shared pizza and smoked cannabis before the alleged assault occurred.
The actor stated that he felt “hazy” and eventually passed out, which he found unusual. He claimed to have woken up several hours later with his clothing disheveled and Spacey allegedly having performed a sex act on him. The man said he protested and was then told to leave immediately, with Spacey instructing him not to talk about the incident.
The alleged victim explained his decision to come forward in 2017, following the emergence of sexual misconduct allegations against Spacey in the US during the #MeToo movement. He admitted to feeling afraid to report the incident earlier, citing the power dynamics involved.
During cross-examination, Spacey’s lawyer questioned the alleged victim’s response to Spacey’s advances and suggested that he had questioned his own sexuality. The witness strongly rejected these claims and emphasized that nothing that had occurred was consensual.
Kevin Spacey has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, including sexual assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity. The alleged incidents are said to have taken place between 2001 and 2013 when Spacey worked at the Old Vic Theatre in London. The trial is ongoing, and Spacey could face a prison sentence if convicted.
