Elon Musk has announced that he has found a new CEO for Twitter, who will take over from him in around six weeks. The billionaire entrepreneur, who bought the social media platform in October 2021, has been running it himself since then but has always insisted that he is not its permanent CEO. Musk will transition to the role of executive chairman and chief technology officer once his successor takes over.

Musk did not reveal the name of the new CEO, referring only to “she” in his tweet announcing the appointment. The announcement was met with a positive response from Tesla shareholders, with the company’s shares rising around 2% after the news broke. Investors had expressed concerns about Musk’s attention being diverted from his electric car company by his role at Twitter.

Musk’s tenure at the helm of Twitter has been marked by controversy, including the firing of the company’s top executives and a scaling back of content moderation and safeguards against the spread of misinformation. In December 2021, he expressed pessimism about finding a successor, saying that no one wanted the job. Two days later, he tweeted that he would resign as CEO as soon as he found someone foolish enough to take the job, a pledge he made after millions of Twitter users asked him to step down in a Twitter poll he created himself.
