AI Revolutionizes Hiring: How ChatGPT Is Changing the Game

Since November 2022, the generative AI automaton ChatGPT has revolutionised writing by allowing anyone with internet access to generate anything in written form. ChatGPT can write persuasive cover letters, summarise career details into a bulleted CV, and even compose poetry. Utilising a dataset comprising 570 billion unique words, job-seekers generate quick and effective content. According to Vince Miller, a lecturer in sociology and cultural studies at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, technology has allowed individuals who lacked writing skills to acquire them overnight.

Benefits for job searchers

Applicants can use generative AI to compose their cover letters and resumes more effectively. Recruiters are aware that candidates are utilising generative AI to assist them, which may cause a shift in the traditional methods of evaluating candidates. Time-strapped recruiting managers may not be able to differentiate between a cover letter written by a candidate and one generated by artificial intelligence. According to some recruiters, the cover letter has been on the decline for years, with hiring managers preferring to scan a resume in less than 10 seconds and evaluate a candidate’s social media and LinkedIn profiles instead.

Modifying recruiting procedures

As more candidates use generative AI to compose their written materials, it may become necessary to modify traditional hiring procedures. In response to the fact that generative AI can create pre-interview presentations, for instance, employers may implement more rigorous evaluations. In addition, there could be a greater emphasis on scrutinising candidates in face-to-face contexts, paying close attention to cultural compatibility and soft skills during the interview process. On their side of the job recruiting process, some recruiters have already adopted new AI tools. Some large corporations, for instance, are utilising AI in the recruitment process to test job applicants’ qualities via skill- and personality assessments that use data-driven behavioural insights to match candidates with vacancies and disclose soft skills.

The future of employment

In the future, generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT may become a standard tool for employment seekers. This could lead to significant changes in the job application process, particularly as “we move from degree certifications to skills-based hiring,” says Brooke Weddle, partner at the Washington-based consulting firm McKinsey & Company. Recruiters must assess and evaluate tasks that machines cannot perform. While generative AI is capable of arranging data in an intriguing manner, it lacks creativity, which may necessitate more creative and abstract thought from the candidate in assessments.
