Overnight drone attacks were reported by both the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces and the Russian Ministry of Defense on Saturday morning, underscoring heightened tensions in the region.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Ukraine successfully intercepted 12 out of 15 Shahed drones launched by Russia overnight. The drones were shot down over various regions including Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Poltava Oblasts.
Explosions were reported in the suburbs of Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, indicating the intensity of the attacks and the potential impact on civilian areas.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that it had thwarted a significant drone attack, shooting down a total of 47 drones across multiple regions. Most notably, 41 drones were intercepted targeting Taganrog in the Rostov region.
Vasiliy Golubev, the regional governor of Rostov Oblast, confirmed the drone attack on Taganrog, highlighting the effectiveness of Russian air defence forces in repelling the assault.
Despite the successful defense against the drone attacks, an employee of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations sustained injuries during the aftermath, underscoring the potential risks and consequences of such incidents.
While reports suggest that the Beriev aircraft factory in Taganrog, known for its military aircraft production, may have been a target of the attack, Ukraine has yet to respond to these claims, leaving the situation open to further speculation and escalation.
