Microsoft has announced plans to create 550 new positions in engineering and research and development at its Dublin office over the next three to four years. These roles will prioritize projects related to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to deliver innovative solutions to both private and public sector clients globally.

Focused Roles Across Various Disciplines

The newly created positions will encompass a range of fields including software engineering, product management, design, program management, analytics, data science, security research, applied sciences, and technical writing. Out of the 550 roles, 120 are already available for applicants, signaling an immediate push for talent to join the Microsoft’s expanding team in Dublin.

Support From the Irish Government

The Irish government has praised Microsoft’s investment as a significant boost for the country’s AI landscape. IDA Ireland, the agency responsible for foreign direct investment, expressed strong support for this initiative. Prime Minister Simon Harris highlighted that this move not only reinforces Ireland’s attractiveness for investment but also accelerates the growth of the AI ecosystem within the nation, aligning with the government’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

James O’Connor, the site leader for Microsoft Ireland, emphasized the transformative potential of AI, noting that it opens up new opportunities for individuals and industries alike. He pointed out that Microsoft’s nearly 40-year presence in Ireland has evolved from manufacturing to a pivotal international hub that supports software development, engineering, data centers, and marketing across the EMEA region.

O’Connor acknowledged Ireland as a thriving center for engineering and cybersecurity expertise, underscoring the role of local universities in cultivating top-tier graduates.
