Lionel Richie, the American singer and four-time Grammy Award winner, has been granted an invitation to attend the coronation of King Charles III on May 6, according to Buckingham Palace, which has kept the guest list strictly confidential. Richie, 73, who is already confirmed to be one of the headline acts at a concert in the Windsor Castle grounds on the following day, will be present at Westminster Abbey for the coronation, the palace stated. Richie has sold over 125 million records worldwide, and in 2019, he became the first global ambassador for Charles’s charitable Prince’s Trust, which supports troubled youths aged between 11 and 30.

The complete list of invitees has yet to be released, but other notable figures in attendance, according to a partial list issued by officials on Monday, include Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Kelly Jones, the lead singer of the Stereophonics, and Jay Blades, the presenter of the hit BBC television programme “The Repair Shop,” who is a champion of restoration and recycling.

An anonymous group of Nobel Prize winners also received an invitation to the event on Saturday, which has been reduced from 8,000 attendees at his mother’s coronation in 1953 to only 2,000. Rather than stuffing the abbey with aristocrats as in prior coronations, Charles is believed to have been determined to reflect modern British life in the ceremony. The King is said to have used “meritocratic not aristocratic” standards to invite representatives of charitable organisations supported by him and Queen Camilla.
