Late-night TV host Jimmy Fallon has offered an apology to staff members working on NBC’s Tonight Show following allegations of a “toxic” work environment. The accusations were revealed in an investigation by Rolling Stone magazine, which spoke with 16 current and former staff members. They detailed experiences of feeling belittled and intimidated, with Fallon’s behavior described as erratic, ranging from “good Jimmy days” to “bad Jimmy days” and including angry outbursts. According to the magazine, the guests’ dressing rooms were sarcastically referred to as “crying rooms.”
Many who voiced concerns to human resources reportedly found their issues unresolved. All those who shared their experiences with Rolling Stone requested anonymity due to fear of retaliation. In response to the allegations, an NBC spokesperson emphasized the network’s commitment to providing a respectful working environment and noted that they investigate and take appropriate actions in response to employee concerns.
Following the Rolling Stone investigation, Fallon addressed his show’s staff via Zoom, expressing embarrassment and regret for any embarrassment caused to them and their families and friends. However, some current employees of the show have defended Fallon, describing him as a positive and appreciative host. They highlighted his practice of commending team members for their excellent work and stressed they had never experienced belittlement or yelling.
