Encouraging Exploration Beyond Tokyo
Japan Airlines is offering international travelers free domestic flights, encouraging them to explore regions beyond Tokyo. With a vast domestic network covering 64 airports and 133 routes, the airline hopes this promotion will inspire visitors to discover lesser-known destinations across Japan.
Discover Unique Japanese Experiences
The free flights allow travelers to experience destinations like Kyoto, home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, or Hokkaido’s stunning northern landscapes. In Kagoshima, travelers can enjoy outdoor adventures, while escaping the typical tourist hotspots. The promotion aims to provide visitors with a richer, more varied experience of Japan.
Easing Overtourism
This offer could help alleviate overtourism in heavily visited areas like Mount Fuji, which has implemented entry fees and visitor caps to manage crowds. By promoting exploration of less-traveled regions, Japan Airlines hopes to distribute tourist traffic more evenly across the country.
How to Access the Free Flights
To qualify for the complimentary domestic flights, travelers must book an international flight with Japan Airlines, ensuring both international and domestic flights are in the same reservation. A stopover fee applies for passengers from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and China who stay longer than 24 hours at their first destination.
Expanding Availability
Currently, the offer is available to travelers from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Thailand, with plans to extend eligibility to more countries throughout September. Japan Airlines also provides generous baggage allowances, letting economy passengers check in two pieces of luggage, each weighing up to 23 kg.
