Airstrikes in Khan Younis Claim Lives
Israeli airstrikes in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis resulted in the deaths of at least 21 Palestinians, as reported by local health officials on Friday. Among the casualties were a journalist, his wife, and three daughters, who were killed when an airstrike hit their home.
Humanitarian Zones Targeted
One of the airstrikes also hit tents in the Mawasi area, a location designated by the Israeli military as a humanitarian zone. This strike killed a journalist working for the Hamas-run Al Aqsa TV channel and five others. Another airstrike targeted a car in Khan Younis.
Mass Exodus Follows Airstrikes
The recent airstrikes prompted thousands of Palestinians to flee Khan Younis, many of them carrying basic necessities like tents and blankets. This exodus marks at least the third time Israeli forces have carried out a significant incursion into the city, which has been heavily damaged by the ongoing conflict.
Israel’s Objective in Gaza
Israel has stated that its military operations in Gaza aim to dismantle Hamas following the October 7 attack, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of 250 others. The conflict has led to the deaths of over 39,600 Palestinians and injuries to more than 91,700.
Additional Strikes in Southern Lebanon
On the same day, an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon killed a Hamas official near the port city of Sidon. This follows a pattern of similar airstrikes targeting Hamas officials in Lebanon, with previous strikes leading to the deaths of high-ranking members of the group.
