Musk Takes Action to Foreclose on Historic Property
Elon Musk is reportedly initiating foreclosure proceedings on the Los Angeles home once owned by the late actor Gene Wilder. The Tesla CEO had previously sold the property to Wilder’s nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, with the intention of keeping it in the family, but financial difficulties have now put the house in jeopardy.
A Star’s Legacy and a Billionaire’s Purchase
Gene Wilder, famous for his roles in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Young Frankenstein, lived in the Bel Air home until 2007. Elon Musk purchased the property in 2013 for $6.75 million, and in 2020, he sold it to Walker-Pearlman for $7 million, offering a $6.7 million loan to facilitate the purchase.
Financial Struggles Amid Hollywood Strikes
The recent Hollywood strikes in 2023 have reportedly impacted Walker-Pearlman’s ability to keep up with his loan payments, prompting Musk to protect his financial interests by starting the foreclosure process. Despite this, Walker-Pearlman insists that their relationship with Musk remains positive and that no immediate foreclosure is imminent.
A Home Full of Memories and Filmmaking Inspiration
Walker-Pearlman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to own the home, which allowed him to film his autobiographical movie, The Requiem Boogie, in a place filled with childhood memories. He described the past four years as “special and magical,” noting that the current steps taken are a collective effort with Musk’s team.
Historic Property Back on the Market
To settle the debt, Walker-Pearlman and his wife have listed the 70-square-meter Bel Air property for $12.95 million. The home, designed by renowned architect Robert Byrd, offers stunning views of the Bel Air Country Club and blends classic Hollywood charm with modern potential, making it a rare piece of real estate history now available for purchase.
