Surge in User Growth
Bluesky, the emerging social media platform, has attracted one million new users following the recent US presidential election. This influx comes as many users from Elon Musk’s platform, X, turn to Bluesky for a different experience.
Total User Count Hits 15 Million
The announcement from Bluesky on Wednesday revealed that its user base has surged to 15 million, up from approximately 13 million at the end of October. The platform, which was publicly launched in February and is endorsed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, mimics features from X, including a “discover feed” and a chronological feed for following accounts.
Bluesky’s Ongoing Appeal
The post-election boost in users isn’t the first time Bluesky has capitalized on the departures from X. The platform previously gained 2.6 million users in just one week after X faced a ban in Brazil in August, with a remarkable 85 percent of these new users coming from that region.
A Notable One-Day Spike
Last month, Bluesky experienced an impressive boost when around 500,000 new users registered in a single day. This uptick followed an announcement from X indicating that previously blocked accounts would regain access to view public posts, prompting users to explore alternatives.
Competitive Landscape in Social Media
While Bluesky enjoys rapid growth, X also saw new user signups increase by 15.5 percent on Election Day, with a record-breaking 942 million posts shared globally. As both platforms vie for user attention, representatives from Bluesky and X have yet to comment on the evolving dynamics within the social media landscape.
