Romanian police have conducted new raids at the home of controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate, who is currently facing charges related to human trafficking, rape, and running a criminal gang to exploit women. The raid is part of an ongoing investigation into serious allegations involving minors.
Widespread Investigation Underway
Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, confirmed that officers searched four properties in Bucharest and Ilfov early Wednesday. The investigation focuses on accusations of human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sexual relations with a minor, influencing witness statements, and money laundering. Hearings will be conducted at DIICOT’s headquarters later.
Tate’s Legal Team Responds
Following the raids, Tate’s spokesperson, Mateea Petrescu, acknowledged the search but stated that the charges mentioned in the warrant remain unclear. The legal team is involved in the process, although Petrescu did not specifically address the allegations concerning minors. Authorities have been meticulously combing through Tate’s expansive property on the outskirts of Bucharest.
The Ongoing Legal Battle
Andrew Tate, along with his brother Tristan, was arrested in 2022 and formally indicted on multiple charges last year. Both brothers, along with two Romanian women, have denied the allegations. Despite their repeated denials, Romanian courts have determined that the case meets the legal standards to proceed to trial, though a start date has yet to be set.
International and Legal Complications
The Tate brothers, who are also facing separate legal issues in the UK, were previously held in police custody for three months before being placed under house arrest. Recently, a Romanian court reversed a decision allowing them to leave the country while awaiting trial. Andrew Tate, known for his controversial and misogynistic views, continues to claim that the charges are part of a political conspiracy to silence him.
